Ad-ition

Last night we went to see Slumdog Millionaire. The movie previews were "brought to us by" A Large Canadian Bank Who Shall Remain Unnamed.

So the bank is sponsoring advertising now?

Isn't that like my phone bill being sponsored by Nike?

Speaking of finishing...

The Toronto Craft Alert is having a Get Er Done Giveaway.

I think this is the longest I have gone without starting a new project for some time - 3 weeks now!

Time flies when you work too much...

Oy. You know you don't have nearly enough "Me" time when you create your "February 2009" photo folder on February 18th.
Several months back I read somewhere that economic times are uncertain, and many people lose/are in fear of losing their jobs, the overall health of the population declines. That's definitely been the case in our ICU - the last 3 months we have been busy, and the patients are even sicker than usual. Lately "a good day" means that I am out of the hospital by midnight!

This is my excuse for not blogging very often of late, and totally falling behind on reading other blogs. (I guess it's technically a "doctor's note", isn't it? Maybe I can get a note excusing me from going to work from Epstein's Mother)

But I press on with my plans to finish a small fraction of some of my embarassingly large selection of many UFO's.

I now no longer fear the I-cord bindoff:
dorsum

I really like the look of the "coiled cuff", and will probably incorporate it into future projects - looks much nicer than ribbing, although it is more bulky.

I still have the second Hand Hoodie to finish, and then it's time to pick up the Yummy Fable Gloves again. When I can find the time, that is...

February is For Finishing Frankensocks

I joined the "February is for Finishing" group on Ravelry - because the UFO completing fairy is taking its sweet time in making it to my house.

Today I finished weaving in the ends on my Raindrops Keep Falling on My Socks. I started working on them April 2007, and they have been sitting on a shelf for at least a year just waiting for me to finish the toe on the second sock.

Frankensocks from the top
Why the delay? Well, it turned out that I ran out of yarn. This is what happens when you knit a size 11 sock at 11 stitches to the inch. In a cable pattern to optimize yarn consumption.
Frankensocks from the bottom
I had some leftover Socks that Rock, so I used it to do the bottom part of the short row toe.
Note the perfect grafting job at the bottom - they may be Frankensocks, but they are Frankensocks without a visible seam.
Sock #1 knit up fine, but the first time I knit Sock #2, something seemed wrong - then I realized that I had used a 2.25mm needle rather than a 2.0mm needle - so I frogged it back, and then put the socks on a shelf because some other project caught my eye.

Next up is either Hand Hoodies or Yummy Fable gloves - I am realizing that my projects often get put aside at particularly finicky or difficult points in the pattern. Do I want to figure out how to knit the thumb on the first Yummy Fable glove, or figure out how to do applied I cord with a circ? Sounds like a good night to do laundry!

The things you find on the Internets - craft fiction

And you thought that the number of knitting based novels was getting up there...

I was going to make a joke about the untapped scrapbooking fiction market, but it turns out I would be in error.

In fact now I'm getting kind of scared...
